Jessica Leger, Deputy Director of Athletics/Senior Woman Administrator
Dr. Jessica Leger became the Ragin' Cajuns Assistant Director of Athletics for Compliance in the summer of 2007. She is responsible for Sun Belt Conference and NCAA rules and regulations including student-athlete eligibility and rules compliance. In 2012, she gained oversight to the Student-Athlete Academic Center and became the University's Senior Woman Administrator (SWA). She also serves as the coordinator for the Student-Athlete Affairs program and is the advisor for the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.
Dr. Leger joined the Athletics Department staff after spending three years in the teaching profession. A former member of the Ragin' Cajuns softball team, she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in marketing from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette in 2003. She later earned her Master of Education degree in education administration with a supervision concentration from the University in May 2006. She received her Ph.D. in higher education administration in 2010 from Louisiana State University.
As a student, she was an active member of the Louisiana academic community and student body serving as the Student Government Association President and Homecoming Queen in 2002. Dr. Leger was also the University of Louisiana at Lafayette's Outstanding Graduate in the Spring 2003.
Tom Burke, Assistant Director of Athletics for Compliance
Tom Burke, a member of the UL Lafayette Athletics Department since January of 2009, currently serves as the Assistant Director of Athletics for Compliance.
In May 2012, Burke was promoted to Director of Compliance after serving as Compliance Coordinator since January 2009. A native of Newberry, SC, Burke earned his Bachelor’s Degree from Newberry College in 2007 and later received his Master’s Degree from Troy University in May 2009.
Russell Register, Compliance Coordinator
Russell Register joined the Ragin’ Cajuns athletic staff in May 2015 as Compliance Coordinator. He also serves as Co-Advisor to the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee. A native of Marianna, Fla., Register earned his Associate’s degree from Chipola (Fla.) College and Bachelor’s degree from Troy University. While at Troy, he was named Outstanding Undergraduate History Student (Dothan Campus). He received his Juris Doctor from the University of Alabama School of Law in May 2015.
While at UA Law, Register served as President of the Sports and Entertainment Law Society and the Christian Legal Society. He was also awarded the Dean’s Community Service Award for his service to the community and school of law. Register is licensed to practice law in the state of Alabama.
Before joining the Ragin’ Cajuns staff, Register served for two years as a Compliance Assistant in the University of Alabama Intercollegiate Athletics Department. While working for the Crimson Tide, Register was selected to participate in the 2015 NCAA Emerging Leaders Seminar in Indianapolis, Ind. He also interned during the summers of 2012 and 2013 in the Troy University Athletic Compliance Office.
